AND anxiety AND depression AND Brain-Gut Axis.

Relationship between anxiety and depression in irritable bowel syndrome
Abstract: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract with no defined etiology. Studies point to emotional stress as a significant factor, leading to the need to analyze the connection between the central nervous and gastrointestinal systems. The objective is to identify the available evidence about the relationship between anxiety and depression in IBS. The searches were carried out using the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) with proximity operator and Boolean operators: AND (OR or NOT), irritable bowel syndrome AND anxiety AND depression AND Brain-Gut Axis. Data collection took place through material selected from the VHL, CAPES and PUBMED databases. Articles published between 2018 and 2023 in Portuguese, English and Spanish that were available in full and that addressed the topic were included. Studies that did not directly address the topic, theses, guidelines, annal summaries, review articles and books were excluded.
